Course Description:
This unit specifies the outcomes required to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more) for licensing purposes, and involves the operation of a telescoping device, hinged device, or articulated device or any combination of these used to support a platform on which personnel, equipment and materials may be elevated to perform work.

Course Outline

Trainees will be assessed according to the Endorsed Assessment Instrument approved by Safe Work Australia and WorkSafe Victoria

Upon completion of this course, trainees will have the skills and knowledge required to:
  • Plan work using boom-type elevating work platforms
  • Conduct routine checks on boom-type elevating work platforms
  • Set up boom-type elevating work platforms
  • Operate boom-type elevating work platforms
  • Shut down and secure boom-type elevating work platform
Once competence is achieved, trainees will receive a Statement of Attainment and a Notice of Assessment which may then be used to apply for a Licence to Perform High Risk Work – Class WP

Language, literacy:
The assessment process is broken into three sections – Knowledge, and numeracy Assignment and Practical. The Knowledge assessment may be conducted orally. The Assignment must be conducted in writing. All assessments are closed-book, and must be conducted in English – engaging an interpreter is not allowed.

Health Note:
The training and assessment will involve working around heavy machinery, bending, crawling, and light to medium lifting. Please refer to ‘Student Health Form’ for further advice.
