Course Overview
This 1 Day WorkSafe-approved HSR Refresher OHS Training Course provides an opportunity for existing Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and Deputy HSRs to revisit aspects of their HSR Initial OHS Training Course and refresh their knowledge of the importance of OHS in the workplace. By participating in a strategic review of their initial training, this course reinforces the critical role HSRs and Deputy HSRs play in advocating for workplace safety and staying at the forefront of best practice.
Who can enrol into our HSR Refresher OHS Training Course?
Under section 67 the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic.), all elected HSRs and Deputy HSRs who hold office are entitled to select and attend a HSR refresher course once per year in consultation with their employer. HSRs and Deputy HSRs will need to bring their Certificate of Attendance for their WorkSafe-approved 5 Day HSR Initial OHS Training Course.
Our HSR Refresher OHS Training Course is suitable for all industries, such as emergency workers, manufacturing personnel, agricultural workers, construction, logistics and more. Our course can also be attended on an individual level.

Course Details
What subjects are covered in our HSR Refresher OHS Training Course?
WAM Training’s WorkSafe-approved HSR Refresher OHS Training Course is designed to provide an update on:
- Legislation
- Risk management on specific and general hazards
- HSR entitlements and powers
- HSR skills
Whilst the above general subjects are covered in each course, there will also be a particular focus subject from the following:
- Plant: Concentrates on safety aspects related to plant and equipment such as industrial machinery, tools, vehicles, and other mechanical or electrical equipment
- Work-Related Violence: Addresses safety concerns related to workplace violence
- Work-Related Stress: Focuses on managing stress-related risks in the workplace

HSR Refresher OHS Training Course structure
Utilising a series of group-based role plays throughout the day, our focused curriculum covers legislative updates, tailored risk management strategies for a diverse range of workplace hazards, and an in depth revision of HSR entitlements. This also includes refreshing their legal rights, preparing them for OHS challenges and how to navigate employee/employer relations in the face of workplace safety obstacles. Upon completion, participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
Key benefits of our HSR Refresher OHS Training Course
This annual refresher, in line with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic.), allows a HSR to adequately represent workers in matters of OHS workplace safety. Armed with updated information and improved skills, HSRs can liaise with supervisors and employees, issue Provisional Improvement Notices (PIN), and order a work stoppages in unsafe conditions.
Does my employer have to allow me to attend?
Section 67 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic.), stipulates that employers in Victoria have a legal duty to allow their HSRs and Deputy HSRs to undergo training with at least 14 days’ notice if they so wish. Employers are obligated to bear the expenses of the course and maintain the regular pay of their HSRs while they are attending the course.

WAM Training can work with any special training requirements of participants prior to course commencement and reasonable adjustments can be made for participants with impairments (e.g. vision, hearing, mobility etc.).

How many other participants might be at my course?
Whilst WorkSafe Victoria allows up to 20 participants in each HSR Refresher OHS Training Course, we prefer to limit our group size to a maximum of 15. We are passionate about keeping our class sizes small so that you and your team receive the dedicated attention this course deserves.

Our 1 Day HSR Refresher OHS Training Course fee is $352 (Inc GST) per person. Employers are legally obligated to bear the expenses of the course and maintain the regular pay of their HSRs while they are attending the course under Section 67 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic.).
Provided you attend and participate, you’ll receive a Certificate of Attendance for the HSR Refresher OHS Training Course.
WorkSafe Victoria requires that participants attend the entire day before their Certificate of Attendance can be issued.
The HSR Refresher OHS Training Course isn’t about passing and failing. We want you to learn as much as you possibly can from the course. Arrive with a positive attitude and participate throughout the day to get the most out of your course.
